POP-UP AT THE LAUNDROMAT

We meet weekly at laundromats in Lake Worth, West Palm and Riviera Beach, bringing a shade tent, refreshments, camping chairs, toiletries, Narcan and used clothing. We would love to have these “pop-up” all over the county where the need exists.

JOHN SCHOOL

Very few strategies address both supply and demand in terms of sex trafficking, but a John School is one of them! What on earth is a John School? It is a diversion program for individuals arrested on misdemeanor prostitution charges – either purchasing or selling commercial sex. Taking our class, getting STI testing and paying the court fees removes the charges from your record.

LightHouse PBC's Big Dream

to open a safe house facility

for trafficking survivors

Why is this such a critical need? When a woman escapes a trafficker, she often escapes with nothing but the clothes on her back. She typically has:

  • No family to turn to – often they were part of the problem, creating the vulnerabilities that landed her there through their own brokenness
  • No friends to fall back on – traffickers isolate their victims knowing other viable options are a threat to their operations
  • No legitimate employment options – traffickers confiscate social security cards, making it almost impossible for victims to find jobs. Plus, they have employment gaps, with no references, resumes or appropriate clothing
  • Life skill deficits – typically, victim’s family of origin failed to impart critical life skills needed for adaptive living
  • PTSD – from the trafficking and complex trauma from family of origin abuse, neglect and abandonment make it very difficult to sleep, focus, self-regulate, and engage in everyday life – much less hold down a job
  • Addictions – traffickers routinely facilitate illicit drug addictions, making their victims more easily controlled

A safe house program provides safety – first and foremost!

This creates the platform needed to address the aftermath of a trafficking experience and the life and job skill deficits that funnel women into the life. Programs are 12 to 18 months long, providing therapy, life and job skill training, support and graduated re-entry into adulthood with all its responsibilities and challenges.
